NAWA® MEDICAL – Experts in modern wound care
NAWA® has been focusing on wounds and their healing processes for more than 30 years and is well-versed in understanding how these processes interrelate.
In collaboration with internationally recognised experts, we conduct research into the complex metabolic processes of injuries, wound and tissue healing. We are constantly working to optimise the healing process with our products.
As a expert in modern wound care, we offer numerous medical devices under NAWA® MEDICAL for the care of injuries, the treatment of acute and chronic wounds and the regeneration and care of stressed skin. All NAWA® products are based on the concept of providing the body with scientifically sound, optimal support for self-healing. Their effectiveness has been scientifically tested, proven in studies and confirmed by users.
Mode of action – the NAWA® principle

1. Moisture

The principle of moist wound healing is generally recognised by medical experts and is known to optimise and accelerate wound healing. The cells required for healing can multiply more easily, the formation of new tissue is improved and wound closure can take place more quickly. This is, however, not a new discovery; the idea of moist wound healing was developed back in 1962. George D. Winter discovered that new tissue formation (epithelisation) can take place up to 50 percent faster in a moist wound environment than with a dry wound surface.
2. pH-Wert

The acidic environment promotes epithelialisation and angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels) and thus initiates the wound healing process. As a result, the microcirculation in the wound is increased and the formation of healthy granulation tissue is facilitated. This leads to faster wound healing. One of the most important reasons for this is the increased oxygen supply to the tissue due to the acidic environment. Most pathogenic bacteria associated with infected wounds in humans require a pH-value > 6. All NAWA Medical products have an acidic pH-value. Application to the wound surface lowers the pH and creates an environment unsuitable for bacterial growth and multiplication. This has been proven by microbiological studies.
3. Trace elements

The basis of all NAWA® products is an acidic solution containing metal ions. This solution was developed to physically create an environment that promotes wound healing. The trace elements zinc and iron have been selected with particular care to ensure compatibility, patient comfort, cell compatibility, microbial safety and the stability of the solution, but to reliably exclude pharmacological, immunological and metabolic effects. Zinc and iron are also mentioned in the available scientific literature in connection with tolerability, low risk and their role in physiological processes of wound healing. These scientific findings were subsequently confirmed by in-vitro test data and studies.
